There is a special demand for sovereign AI, which has become a prerequisite for protecting national security and strengthening the resilience of the public sector. Sovereign AI also allows nations to make compute and tools accessible for the greater good to innovate and unlock economic growth.

In this session, we’ll explore how nations invest in sovereign AI and through a strong public-private collaboration, can scale AI and make it inclusive to create a positive societal impact.

Secretary of State, Ministry of Digital Affairs

PhD in economics, lawyer. Lecturer at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw. In the Ministry, he is responsible for artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, EU digital policy, applications, and internet governance. In 2015-2023, chief economist and member of the Management Board of the Kalecki Foundation. In 2019-2023, head of legislation at the Parliamentary Club of Lewica (the Left). Author of over 200 bills, including in the field of economic and social matters. Co-author of the study “Digital State. Strategy for Poland”, in which he discusses the state of development of digital technologies in Poland, the European Union and internationally, as well as specific tasks and goals facing Poland in the digital area. Member of the Poznań branch of the Polish Economic Society. Member of the National Board of the Nowa Lewica party. Born in Rożnowo in the Greater Poland voivodeship.

Budil sets the strategic vision for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and exercises broad delegated powers to ensure successful execution of programs and operations to enhance national security through application of cutting edge science and technology and to maintain an outstanding and diverse workforce. She leads the development and implementation of the Laboratory’s scientific vision, goals and objectives and serves as the Laboratory’s highest-level liaison with the Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, the LLNS Board of Governors, the University of California and other government, public and private organizations.
